A specialized team of around 20 experts develops and manufactures phosphors and inorganic specialty materials in Greifswald, Germany — since 2002, independent and owner-managed since the 2020 MBO.
Materials are synthesized, coated, filled and labelled in Greifswald — in quantities from a few kilograms up to industrial series. Nothing is handed to a contract manufacturer along the way.
That is what keeps development and production in the same conversation: the people who develop a material are the people who later run it in series, and every batch is documented against the agreed specification.
Litec GbR is spun off from the University of Greifswald, initiated by Dr. Walter Tews and Dr. Gundula Roth — the pre-history of today’s company.
Founding of Litec-LLL GmbH with a focus on the production of LED phosphors.
Full acquisition by Merck KGaA, Darmstadt — the industrial scale-up era begins; Dr. Stefan Tews assumes leadership as Managing Director.
Relocation within Greifswald’s technology park to Siemensallee 1 — more infrastructure and room to grow.
Phosphor production capacity expanded to around 10 tons per year.
Unique atomic layer deposition (ALD) coating pilot plant commissioned with 3 t/a coating capacity.
Return to independence — owner-managed, faster decisions, a clear specialty focus; the isiphor phosphor line continues under Litec-LLL.
Launch of the isishield brand for identification and brand protection.
TUEV-certified: production on site runs entirely on renewable energy.
Launch of the isigrow brand for agriphotonics.
Each batch is filled, labelled and released against its specification, and the record of how it was made stays with it.
